How much milk for almost 9 month olds?

So I went to lunch with a friend today whose son is a week younger than V.  She says she only gives him maybe 20 oz. of formula a day and purees.  V eats at least 30 oz of milk a day plus purees and soft solids (eggs, pasta, toast, etc.).  Am I feeding her too much formula?  She will stop drinking when she doesn't want anymore.  Should I keep offering that much and take cues from her as to when to reduce the milk?  She skipped her 12:30 bottle but she totally pigged on dumplings, mac & cheese, okra and applesauce right before that feeding.

  • They are supposed to be getting most of their calories and nutrients from milk until 1 year old.  Food right now is just extra.  Keep doing what you're doing.  I see no point in limiting a baby's milk intake.

  • T takes in about as much milk as V does.  And she eats a ton of table foods!  I wouldn't worry about it, sounds like she is doing just fine!
  • My son always drank so much milk. My daughter I can hardly get to take 20 ounces a day. She does eat her table foods really well, so I don't worry about it. Every child is different. I wouldn't limit her milk.

  • Abby took 20-24 ounces if we made her. Emily, we had to more or less limit her to 35 ounces or she'd drink until she puked!

  • OK, I feel better.  Thanks, everyone!  :)
