Food Allergy

Egg allergy question

My niece has a severe egg allergy and I was wondering if I will need to delay eggs for my daughter because of it or if they have nothing to do with one another. My husband and I don't have any food allergies. Any advice will help

Re: Egg allergy question

  • Nope, you should be fine.

  • I wouldn't delay, but I'd keep an eye out, just like with any possible allergen.

  • Although it's not conclusive, current studies indicate that delaying the introduction of certian foods because they might be allergenic doesn't prevent allergies from developing and may actually contribute to food sensitivites and allergies.

If you're concerned about allergies, just intro foods one at a time, watch for reactions, and stay in communication with your pediatrician.

  • I agree with PPs but wanted to add that I wish we would have had Benadryl on hand when we started feeding DD solids. Having to make a mad dash to Walgreens with a hive-covered baby in tow was NOT fun. I think its just a good idea to have some Children's Benadryl in the house, just in case.
