Fallback Rise?

Has anyone experienced a fallback rise with their temps?  I'm new at charting, but even I can tell that my chart looks crazy.  I'm pretty sure I O'd on CD11...I know that's early, but it's typical for me.  Yesterday, at 2 DPO, my temp took a nosedive.  It went way back up today.  I read on FF about something called a fallback rise, which usually happens on 2 DPO, so I'm thinking that's what it was.  How does that affect where FF puts CHs?

Re: Fallback Rise?

  • Why do you think you O'd on CD11?  IMO I don't think you did because you have a positive OPK in that spot.  You "can" O 12-36 hours after a positive OPK, and I say "can" because an OPK only indicates you're body is gearing up to O not that you are actually Oing.

Hmmm...I thought it was 12 - 24 hours after the first +OPK, which was on CD 10.  Is it 12 - 24 hours after the last +OPK?

As I already stated you "can" ovulate between 12-36 hours but it doesn't mean you will!  If you look at other women's charts you'll see them having positives OPK's more than once through out their cycle.  The ONLY way to know if you actually ovulated is by temping and so far by your temps I'd say you didn't ovulate.  You need 3 rising temps for FF to recognize you have ovulated.

Edit: also what PP said it's on the last day you get a positive OPK .

  • Okay, thanks!

I disagree. I think you COULD have O'd on CD11. Only time & temps will tell. But you can definitely O on a day you have a + opk. It's definitely possible.

ETA: See my BFP chart from April 2010 - It has a fallback rise & O on the 2nd day of + OPKs.

Thanks, Juliane!  I looked at your chart from April '10...my question now is how did FF know to place your O day on CD 15, even though your temp dropped two days later?  Why didn't FF say you O'd on CD 17?

BTW ~ I totally remember you from 0-3 and 3-6...You were a lifesaver with your "awake time" chart!

This actually means a lot to me Piper. I'm getting a lot of flack for my charts. Sad Even though I know they can work for some people.

About your question: I'm not a charting expert, but here's my best guess. It's possible that CD 17 was O day (if you look at my CM and the positive OPK 48 hours before CD17).

BUT, I think they stuck it as CD 15 for this main reason: the jump from CD 15 to CD 16 was higher than (almost) all previous temps - this is a huge indication of O. Also, I guess the "fallback rise" pattern is common enough that a dip at 2 DPO doesn't count you out of O'ing.

For fun, I took out my positive OPKs and FF did give me CH's at CD17... But I think with the OPKs where they are and that temp jump, and the fact that I did have fertile CM, all made FF stick with CD15. (Also, I don't think I was very accurate with analyzing my CM so I may NOT have actually had EWCM at 1 and 2 DPO.

Lastly, I got my positive HPT at 10 DPO. If FF said I O'd on CD17, I would've only been 8DPO and that's REALLLLY early to get a positive. For me, that's another hint in the direction that O day was CD15.
