Talk to me about no naps / dropping the nap

I think Megan is dropping her nap she hasn't napped in 3 days and that coupled with the previous 10pm bedtimes, it just seems to be the case.

So how does this work?  I'm not prepared at all.  Do you do quiet time in their rooms?  Quiet play wherever?  for how long?  I just don't even know what's age appropriate for an almost 3.5 year old.  And I'm still totally in denial about losing the mid day break

Meredith was done by then. I did a quiet time in the afternoon when she otherwise would be napping. I would put music on in her room and tell her that she had to stay there until I came to get her or until she heard the oven timer go off. She could play quietly in her room or lay down if she was tired. On rare occasions, she would nap, but usually she just played. I was pregnant with Alex at the time, so I usually napped then.

Now she respects nap time as a time when Alex is napping and she can play quietly by herself or with me.

Ughhh...that sucks. But, honestly, I would rather have no nap then a 10pm bedtime. I like my quiet evening time too much!

My son has a mandatory quiet time/rest time. He can do whatever he wants as long as he stays in his room.  On the rare occassion when he is in a particularly foul mood, I will force him to take a nap but this is few and far between. It started as an hour for us but some days I keep him in there longer and sometimes I let him come out sooner. It all depends on the day and how much quiet time *I* need.

Layna dropped her nap at 25-26 months.  I feel your pain

She doesn't do quiet time or anything.  She sleeps about 12 hours at night, her nighttime sleeping improved dramatically once the nap was gone.  And she's just go go go all day long.

exactly the same in our house. ruby gave up naps right when i got pregnant and wanted to start taking them again. on the rare day that she does take a nap (usually by falling asleep in the car), her nighttime sleep is shiit.
