if you use Nuby flip top straw cups

we love these b/c they seem to leak less than all the others but I have 2 issues:

1. getting the straw back in after cleaning...sometimes I can pop it through easily & sometimes I have to wrestle with that stupid thing (I don't have fingernails) and I have even torn off a piece of one trying to pinch it to pull through. Is there a secret I'm missing short of taking apart hte entire lid (our one that did start popping apart easily ended up being the one that leaked everywhere & was thrown away so I am not taking the whole sliding apparatus off every time)

2. cleaning the straw. i think there is no secret to this but we used to only use them w/ water b/c the straws dont seem to clean well even in the d/w but I want to switch over from sippies to all straw cups & regular cups (they constantly bang their sippies upside down & I feel like they all leak) so if I'm putting milk in, the only way to clean it is to pull out one of those little tiny brushes that came w/ the dr brown's bottles and get in there w/ some soap. I thought I was supposed to be past bottle brushes! Ah!

Would love some sage advice if it exists...

  • I ordered this. I was tired of throwing sippy cups away because I felt like the straw wasnt clean.

  • Go get Dr.Brown tiny little bottle brushes (they are like $3 for 4 of them)-  they fit perfectly inside straws and sippy cup components. Otherwise, before I discovered the brushes I would use a Q-tip and swab-clean the spouts. You wouldn't believe the crud that can collect inside those sippy cups! Yuck!

  • DD uses the playtex sippys, but for the straws ive always taken them out and after washing them as well as i can I get the straws along with the lids and soak them in super hot water with some dish soap....after and hour or 2 it usually does the trick

That's what I've been doing, I didn't know if there was an easier way.
