Mirena

Ok so last week I finally got my Mirena inserted. I had myself all worked up over how much it was going to hurt and blah blah blah. Well I barely felt anything when she put it in. She was concerned that I was bleeding a lot when she inserted it. Told me to take pain meds for the next 24 hours to help with cramping and the bleeding. Before she let me leave she wanted to make sure I wasn't having any issues and asked if I had any cramping or pain. I told her no, I felt completely normal. She said that concerned her (didn't say why). I assumed I would be spotting for a while since I'm normally one of the unlucky ones when it comes to anything medical. Well I bled (sort of like medium/heavy AF) for the first 12 hours after the insertion. Then it tapered off and I haven't even had so much as any spotting since about 18 hours after. I've been having some cramping but nothing too painful. She wants to see me back next Tuesday to check and make sure my body is tolerating the IUD. Anyone else have minimal pain and spotting? I feel like this whole process was way too easy and that its going to bite me in the ass later.

Re: Mirena

  • I had very minimal spotting and no pain.  It's been almost 4 weeks and no visible problems.

  • I had mine insertedon May 20 and have bleed EVERY day like day 2 of my period along with cramping every night.  Called my doc and she said as long as the pad aren't  needing to be  changed every hour it's a side effect of the uterus lining adjusting to the IUD.  I hate it. I have an appointment to have it checked on Tuesday and possibly having it taken out, I have been moody and miserable.  I'm glad you guys are having  the "normal" spotting.
  • OMG, consider yourself lucky. I experienced some serious cramping during insertion, a little bit after and I am STILL bleeding. I had it inserted 5 or 6wks PP!!

It took me a month to get over the mood swings, I haven't experienced anything noticeable since.

  • Thanks for the info ladies. I guess its true that everyone reacts differently. Just expected it to be different than what it has been.

  • I love it...getting it inserted was nothing really. a very mild cramp and a spot of blood. i had bleeding for about a week and it was so light. no mood swings and sex drive is great which i was afraid of! it's weird being period free now
  • I'm on my second Mirena (had one for a little over three years after having our oldest) and I didn't have a lot of pain, cramping or bleeding with either one of them. The clamping of the cervix pinched a bit with the first one and I had very, very mild cramping & spotting with both of them. I didn't have a ton of bleeding and had no periods at all while my first one was in place. I'm hoping for the same thing this time around.

  • I had very minimal pain during the procedure, just a little bit of cramping afterward, and hardly any spotting.  I just got my first period on it and it was borderline spotting the entire 5 days, so that was good.  The only thing I DON'T like (which some of the ladies mentioned) is that I have pretty intense mood swings and sadness with it.  I thought it was just because of the hormones going back to normal after having my daughter, but reading about similar experiences just makes me hope that this goes away with time because I HATE IT!  I never even had a mood swing when I was pregnant! Tongue Tied
