f/u dh

For those keeping up with his situation, the surgeon has decided that he wants to go through with the fusion at l5/s1. The doc is worried that insurance will fight it as he is so young, so it might be a couple months. Keep positive thoughts that everything goes smoothly and I don't go insane (well any more insane) during the 6 months light duty following the procedure. Sigh. We are hopeful he will have better quality of life so it will be a good thing but scary nontheless to have someone cut into your husband's spine.

  • I didn't see your OP either, but best of luck to you and your DH.  My DH had spinal fusion 5 years ago at L4 & L5...he'll need another surgery at L3 in a year or so.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them!
  • I didn't see your OP either, but who do you go to? My DH had a "fexible fusion" back when I was pg with DS#1. His was in the lower portion of his back (can't remember the exact ones). He went to Dr. Jonathan Borden (sp?) at Riverhills Healthcare (near Bethesda North). He does a proceedure that is "newer" but has worked out fantastic for DH. I was terrified. The proceedure is called Dynesys Dynamic Spinalization System. He was/is a landscaper, so it was essential for him to have mobility. His lay-up time was really reasonable, and he's doing great 3+ years later. Let me know if you want to chat.
  • Oh, and DH had just turned 34 when he had it done.
