Will the crying of DS wake up DD once he's here? WWYD?

Been thinking about this...DD and DS's room will be right next to each other. We already have a fan right outside of DD's room for white noise...Will that be enough to block out the crying of DS once he gets there? What have your experiences been? What did you do to help the problem if your first LO kept waking up?

Thanks!

  • A sound machine should help significantly. We have one for each bedroom so that one doesn't wake the other, regardless of who is making noise. We play ocean sound in one room and lullabies in the other room (if we played two musical tunes at the same time they would drive me nuts through the monitor). We leave the sounds on all night long so that DD doesn't wake him when she gets up early morning to nurse.

That said, I haven't experienced her waking him up yet at all. He has woken her up on several occasions, but he's a pretty solid sleeper and doesn't wake when she cries (ringing the doorbell, on the other hand, wakes him up).

We do the same thing. We have white noise machines in both rooms. I keep it on the rain sound, as loud as it will go, all night long. My two have never woke each other up. Even when we did Ferber with my younger one, once you walked into my older one's room you couldnt hear the crying in there. Good luck!

  • Both of my kids have sound machines in their rooms.  Mostly to protect them from our silly cat who has had some trouble adjusting to our new house and meows at night sometimes. Tongue Tied

But DD has never been disturbed by DS's crying at night.  Thank goodness.

  • Ditto the sound machines. I went one night without them and it was hell. They kept waking each other up. Now we have a sound machines turned up full blast in each room. Lilly also has a fan and Owen also has a humidifier.
