you're decreasing 2 stitches per every other row. i don't think it particularly matters whether you do odds or evens, as long as you do it consistently and do 8 rows total.
so, your pattern would be:
row 1: decrease, work in pattern to last 2 stitches, decrease (k2tog or similar).
