Questions for Interviewing a Cleaning Lady?

Now that I'm almost 6 months pg and my house is a disaster I've decided to break down and look at my friend's cleaning lady. I called and left her a message but we have yet to speak or meet. What all should I ask or mention to her?

I know she'll probably need to come to my house to give me an estimate and I plan to ask if I can supply the cleaning products and if there's anything special she prefers.

Any help/advice would be great, thanks!

Get at least two references and ask what her policy is for cleaning when you're not home (where she'll leave the key, etc).

  • I would ask her what she does not clean. Her order of cleaning a room, does she do deep cleaning (fridge, baseboards), do you supply cleaning products...

This is important. we recently let ours go b/c the cleaning was going downhill but also I always sort of had an issue that I never addressed that if they were cleaning X room that week (they did not clean the entire house each time, just hte rooms I designated b/c of time &money), I had an idea of what that meant but they clearly did not have the same idea (for example there is a mirror in the playroom & if they were cleaning the playroom I would think they'd just take some windex & wipe it down since it is covered in handprints & whatnot, which they did with a large mirror in my bedroom, but they never did that in the playroom) . When I interviewed a potential new person, I actually would show her a room & ask exactly what cleaning that room would entail and then ask some specifics re baseboards, wiping down kitchen cabinets, dusting around things, cleaning/wiping off kids stuff if needed, etc. None of those are make or break for me but I wanted to be sure we were on the same page about our definitions of cleaning.
