Growth Spurt? HELP!

My DS seems so unhappy since yesterday. I usually feed him 3 ounces of formula every 3 hours, but lately at 2 hours and 15 minutes he's freaking out and seems hungry. Should I up him to 4 ounces every 3 hours? Or stick with the 3 when he seems hungry??

It seems like he's going through a growth spurt from what I read.. but everything on line talks about breast fed babies. I am so confused! Thanks guys!!

  • Based on his age (without knowing his weight though), he's probably ready for 4 oz. One thing you could do is go up to 3.5 first and then to 4 if you are worried about wasting formula. I bottle fed BM to my first son and by one month he was drinking 4+ ounces every 3 hours. I hate cluster feeding if it can be avoided, and with bottles it usually can by upping the amount. Your life will be easier that way. :)

  • I'm bf'ing so I'm not sure if its any different with formula, but I feed on demand, that way she only eats when she's hungry and eats as much as she wants/needs. There have been times where she'll want to eat almost hourly!  I consider those cluster feeds to be part of a growth spurt.

  • We ff DD & she just started being this way also. She eats more than your lo, 4-6 oz every 4 hours, but the pedi said as long as she is keeping it down to give her more when she wants it. This was our 1st concern with her at birth because she started out eating so much. But they actually said it was a good thing. So since she started acting more hungry at the begining of this week we've just been making 6 oz & almost everytime she will eat just about all that!

    Color me green with envy.

My 10 weeks old (adjusted 6 weeks) will barley take 3 oz every three hours.
