NBR: If you could stay in one hotel in Austin...

My mom and I are finally going to indulge in my birthday gift from a year ago for a spa weekend. Lake Austin looks wonderful, of course, but the cost of the rooms seems crazy. We are planning our own little a la carte spa weekend and going to do a day package at Lake Austin but want to go out to a nice dinner downtown and stay in a wonderful hotel. I think we are OK spending money, maybe $400/night. We really want to feel relaxed and pampered... any ideas? Has anyone ever stayed at The W? Ideas?

  • I would do the Four Seasons. My parents stay there and love it. They have a spa and a pool. We stayed at the Stephen F Austin twice. The first time was fine, but the second time was our wedding night, DH spent a fortune getting a special suite, and I could not sleep because the service elevator was on the other side of the wall and woke me up early that morning. Not happy.

  • Fun! W is awesome, or San Jose, driskell, or what's that hotel behind docs on s congress? Go to olivia for dinner too!

  • I've heard great things about Hotel Saint Cecilia...

  • I haven't stayed at our W but for pampering and a night with Mom I would choose the Four Seasons.

  • I remember hearing christiane amanpour (sp?) saying one of her all-time fav hotels ever is the Austin four seasons...I think that says quite a bit considering how much she travels. I've also heard they have an awesome (and super reasonable) HH.

I would stay at the Four Seasons or The Driskill.

I worked at the Intercontinental Stephen F. Austin for a year and the service there is awesome! The suites are really nice, too, but the regular rooms are on the small side. If you decide to look at it, check out the Yellow Rose Suite. It's the second "best" room in the hotel and it is very pretty and roomy. Should also fit into your budget most nights.

No matter what hotel you stay at, tell them it's a special birthday getaway (I hope I read that right?) for you. If it is a good hotel, they will give you a nice bottle of wine or some chocolates or something. Smile

  • Top pick would be Hotel Saint Cecilia - They have Hastens beds - have you heard of these? HAND STUFFED. I don't even know what that means, but I know I want to sleep on one.

Next would be Four Seasons or the W.

I think either the W or the Barton Creek Resort and Spa

  • I love the Hotel San Jose, but it can be very loud in the rooms at night because of the poolside bar. I'd go for a resort or somewhere like the Four Seasons.

  • I would go for the Hotel San Jose. (That's the one on SoCo, right?)
