Back Pain! Help!

Ok, so this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever experienced, or close to it. I had a sneezing fit today, thank you allergies, and one sneeze made my back spasm and now, I can barely move without pain. Did I somehow manage to throw my back out or is it just some sort of weird muscle issue? What else can I try? I've done heat and tylenol. Do you think ice will help? I feel like such a loser, who sneezes and ends up with killer back pain! Embarrassed

Re: Back Pain! Help!

  • When I was PG I coughed and pulled a muscle in my side/abdomen and it was so so so painful I could barely sleep.  I had some other issues going on and was a wreck and crying in my OB's office and he had me take some ibuprofin.... DO NOT DO THIS without talking to your OB though.  There are weeks where it's OK and weeks where it most certainly is dangerous.  But talk to your OB about what you can do.  I'm sorry, it sucks to be pregnant and not have any relief!  can you rest tonight?

Ok, I am so glad that you understand, Jill! If it's still throbbing in the morning, I'll give my OB a call. I'm sitting with support on my lower back and will try ice. It sucks when you can't lie flat for very long either! Thanks, Jill!

True, you most likely pulled a muscle fiber. It is ver common when sneezing, caughing, and laughing. Especially when you are pregnant. Your body is changing you have prolactin in your joints, muscles are stretching and becoming weaker in some areas. Including the back. Normally I would say take a anti-inflammatory but you should not take those when you are pregnant. So ice, stretch and relax.
