I'm planning on switching from an OB to a midwife for my next pregnancy. I have my annual exam coming up soon with the OB. Should I switch docs now and have the midwife to the annual or wait until pregnancy? I'm also wanting to talk to the midwife about VBAC and don't know if I should do that during the annual or do a separate consultation.
Re: Should I switch docs now or later?
I was in the same position about a month ago. I went to my OB one last time for my annual. I wanted to give her a chance to get "on my side." I've been going there for 15 years, so I had a little sadness about leaving. After a frank discussion about VBACs, I feel firm in my decision to switch.
If you have no heartburn about leaving, then I would go ahead and schedule your annual with the MW. There can be additional copays for consultations, so you might as well use the annual to talk to the MW.
This is what I did as well. I saw my midwife for my annual right when we started TTC.
