Austin Babies

dilemma

Since i've gotten pregnant i don't know wether i should give my child a name whether is be first or middle that has something to do with dh nigerian heritage. This is a concern that i've been battling for about three weeks. Dh is an american born nigerian and says he's only nigerian by last name [he jokes] i would like to because i think culture is a big thing but he wants to name the baby either clinton porter or naylah jordan. I love both names but my mother hates clinton and she also hates the idea of nigerian names! Any suggestions?

Re: dilemma

  • Your DH is the one who is Nigerian, and it doesn't seem as if he's wanting a Nigerian name.  To me, it doesn't seem like much of a dilemma.

And fwiw, it might be a good idea not to share name ideas with your mom.  It's your baby, not hers, and it's up to you and your DH to choose a name you both like.  We waited to share both of our babies' names until they were born, and I feel like that was a really great decision.

  • Ditto mlf. If your DH doesn't have any interest in honoring his own heritage, you can't force him.
