used crib mattress? We bought the crib from craigslist and I love it. It came with a nice mattress, but of course it has been used by somebody I don't know. It has latex surface, so I can clean it really well and then use extra protective mattress cover. I am still hesitant, however. What do you think?

hmmm. That's a good question. With all the stuff about bedbugs, I'd be a little skeptical. But I can also be quite the germ-a-phobe, so take it for what it's worth.

From a stranger I would buy a new mattress...you could even try and sell the old one on CL for a few bucks. 

We're getting a used crib/mattress from a friend - she's worried about the comfort of the mattress, all 3 of her kids have slept on it.  But I'm not worried, LO will only be in it for a few years...if that (both my kids were crib monkeys, they climbed out before age 1!!)

I am not a germ freak by any means. There are some things I would just draw the line at - buy a new crib mattress and the thought will never be in your head again

Thank you all for the feedback. We are ordering a new  mattress. I know I will feel better that way for sure.
