I was tempted by the Groupon this week for Farm Delivery. I do this every six months or so--research a CSA, decide I'm going to do it, and then it just never happens. So, if you use a CSA or Greenlings, can you convince me? Why do you love it? Is it really fresh? Do you do just produce, or meat and dairy too?Is it hard to get your kids/husbands to eat? Is it tasty? Do you think it saves you money?
Also, I hate grocery shopping. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
TIA!! I appreciate it.
Re: s/o grocery delivery-do you like it?
I'm about to go to bed so here's the short version.
I love Greenling. Most items are not less expensive but there's no impulse buys for me really and I can take 2 days to load up my cart and not miss things that I have to go back for
. The premade meals are not a bargain compared to shopping for the items on your own. It's a HUGE bargain compared to going out to eat and purchasing 2 adult entrees and 2 kids entrees (not to mention tip and the hassle). They are divinely tasty IMHO. Simple, but fresh and yummy.
Everything seems really fresh and the handful of times I've had an issue, I tell them and they refund me. No questions asked. They have a chat feature that's active during the day. It's awesome. It doesn't replace my usual shopping trip but makes it much shorter and quicker.
My ONLY complaint is that they deliver late on Friday's for my zone. Like after dinner. I wish it would get here before dinner so I could plan on using it that night but it's really no big deal. They deliver tons of GF stuff that I'd otherwise have to drive 30-60 minutes for too (special trip) and so in theory, I save a ton on gas too.
OK... that wasn't short but I type really fast
If you want a referral... stacy at nicemonkeys.com and I can give you my code. I'll have to look it up later.
We have been talking about it for along time but finally bit the bullet this week. 2 days before the Groupon came out. grr...
It's not intended to fully replace grocery shopping for us, but we are considering buying some meats and cheeses from them occasionally. We probably could use it to replace most grocery shopping, but it would be prohibitively expensive.
We had a couple of reasons for joining. One, we are in a veggie rut and I want us to try new things. Two, it's largely organic (maybe all organic? I can't tell) and I can't get much organic produce at HEB. Three, we want to support local farmers.
We get our first box today and I can't wait! I'll try to remember to post a review.
We just started getting the Local Box from Greenling about a month ago, and DH and I both love it. He actually pushed the idea because he was not impressed with the produce at HEB and thought we were in a veggie rut. He LOVES fresh veggies. We get our box delivered on Wednesday afternoon. Yesterday we got lovely tomatoes, peaches, beets (which we are learning to eat), leeks, assorted squash, okra and black eyed peas and something else I'm forgetting. They also sent basil, which was so fragrant that I want to just leave it on the counter in a vase as an air freshener.
It costs $34, and generally gives the 2 of us enough veggies for the week, but we only really eat them at dinner. I like that it makes me try new things in order not to waste them. DH loves the freshness factor.
This past winter, I split a CSA box with a friend for a few weeks, and it really was not as good. I don't know if it was just the season or if it was the co-op itself, but we ended up with TONS of assorted greens and not much else. I swear, i didn't want to eat another green, and ended up wasting a good bit because we didn't use it. With that one, you never knew what was coming in the box until it got there. With Greenling, they send you an email on Friday saying what will be in the next box, so you can order it or not. I'm liking it so far, and it saves me a trip to the farmers market on the weekend.
LOVE, love LOVE Greenling. Great selection, good quality, prices are comparable to WF. Like PP, it doesn't replace our HEB trips 100%, but I only need to get a few things from the store, which takes me about 20 minutes instead of the usual hour. Love it.
In addition the what Stacy said about the meals, they're also ridiculously quick to make. Everything comes prepped (veggies chopped, spices pre-measured, etc) so it's literally less than 15 minutes to get dinner on the table.
Stacy's code is stadom180. ;-) Gives you both 10% off!
Mine is marjas311, in case anybody else wants one too.
