After effects of epidural?

Did anyone have any after effects of their epidural? For a couple weeks after I had a pulsating feeling where they inserted the epidural if I moved too fast or picked up my son too quickly. Didn't really hurt, just took my breath away. Now at nearly 6 weeks PP, I don't feel it at all. Really haven't felt it for the last three weeks now that I think about it.

One of my coworkers DIL gave birth a week and a half ago. She evidently started getting severe headaches and eventually got dehydrated. The doctors around here couldn't figure out what was going on. The family is blaming the epidural, but I haven't heard if that's what caused this or not for sure. Tuesday they life watched her to a bigger hospital and yesterday they pronounced her brain dead, and last night she passed.  Sad, sad news.

  • Wow!  That's really sad.

I've never heard of that happening but it can't be ruled out.  Was she checked for signs of a stroke?

  • That is very sad, however I very much doubt those complications are a result of her epidural.

  • I ended up with a damaged femoral nerve which resulted in a partially numb right leg - from mid thigh to mid shin with the worse numbness being my knee. My leg was so numb that it would give out on my any time I tried to put weight on it, so for the first 2 days after my c-section that they wouldnt even let me out of bed.

It has gotten better since my c-section but to this day it is still numb. Thankfully I'm able to walk around and finally feel confident walking up and down stairs. It was so scary at first, though. They said this is SUPER rare and they had no idea if it'd get better or not. It's very likely that I'll always have some sort of decreased sensation in my knee but hopefully it will return to normal (they said if it didn't by 2 weeks it would likely be permanent)...

  • My sister had an "epidural headache" which means you are leaking the  cerebrospinal fluid that cushions your brain and spinal cord.  The leaking happens from the injection site not sealing itself off I suppose.  If this was not investigated I would blame the epidural too.  Could have been a pretty severe leak.

I didn't even think of this. Maybe it was the epi.
