NCDR: if it was 73 degrees in your house...

...what would you put LO to bed in?  I am always worried about DS being too warm or too cold, I feel like I'm the worst judge of temperature. My post-partum hormones always making me hot one second and cold the next isn't helpful because it makes it even harder to judge.

I usually put his fluffy butt in a footed sleeper and then a light or medium-weight blanket depending on how I feel (he doesn't do anything but scooch up in his sleep, so blankets are no problem yet). Tonight our AC broke and it got hot so I put him in just a onesie. AC got fixed so I put a cozy blanket on him, but I'll worry all night that he's cold.

Anywayyyy...just wondering, what temperature do you keep your house at night and what do you put LO to sleep in?

  • We keep it 70 at night.  I put DD in a fitted, wool soaker, lightweight cotton sleeper & sleepsack.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

  • Her room is around 73. Last night she was curled up in a ball in a lightweight footless sleeper, so tonight I put a footed sleeper on her.
  • 73 - fitted wool soaker cotton pjs the kind with t shirt and pants *sorry phone typing
  • I worry about this all the time. My boys sleep in sposies for now due to leaking but the 2 y/o is in thin cotton pants and long sleeve T with socks and the 9 m/o old is in a cotton footed sleeper. Both have light blankets but they both kick them off. Funny thing about kids is if they are not happy with something they let us know. I think if they sleep ok then you are probably doing ok.

  • We keep our house 64 in the winter and DS wears a sposie (gets rashes if he's in a CD overnight), fleece PJs and a light weight wool blanket.  Now it is finally a little warmer so the house stays more like 68 all night so he goes down in a sposie, 100% cotton PJs (Hanna Anderson long sleeve/long pants 2 piece or zip up) and has a winter weight Aden and Anais blanket on top.  He mostly takes the blanket around with him, but never seems uncomfortable.  If it's above 75, usually I just put him down in a onsie and a regular Aden and Anais blanket, but would check before I go to bed to see if he feels cool.  We almost never need to run an A/C here though which I think makes a difference.  If he could possibly feel cool air blowing directly from A/C, I'd probably layer up a tiny bit.
  • Wow, I feel like I am putting so much on DD based on what pps said. We keep it around 76-78 at night and she wears a double stuffed pocket, cotton footed pjs, and a warm fuzzy blanket. She never seems to be hot and usually STTN so I'm not gonna worry.

  • Hmmm...at 73, a lightweight sleeper or a tee and diaper. She's in a muslin sleepsack + muslin blanket.

  • we live in az, so 73 could be considered a little "cold" in this house

but at 73, i'd have her in jammies with long sleeves and pants

now that it's summer we keep it around 78-80 at night, and most nights she goes to sleep in just her diaper with her blankets

she always has her blankets though, regardless of temp. she won't go to bed without them

  • Well tonight the room is 75, which is comfortable I guess.  She sleeps in a onesie or a light sleep most nights.  We bed-share, so I guess right next to me is pretty warm.

  • We usually leave it around 70.  DD1 sleeps in a pocket diaper, a long-sleeved tshirt, and a light cotton sleepsack.  DD2 sleeps in a pocket diaper, cotton pjs and a light cotton sleepsack.  I may switch them back to fitteds at night once I have a chance to make a few more, and then I'll probably do fitted, soaker, tshirt and sleepsack.

  • The house is usually around 72-74, but DD's room is always a bit warmer in the summer months.  She's in a tshirt and fitted with wool soaker.  She seems to sleep better when she's on the cool side.
  • We've been keeping our apartment at 72 degrees, and LO wears her diaper, footed pajamas, and a fleece sleepsack to bed.

  • I keep it at 74 for the babies. At night they sleep in onesie and fleece swaddle sleep sack. During the day they sleep in onesie and cotton swaddle sleep sack.

Check his hands and feet - that's always my indication. If they feel warm or his cheeks are flushed it might be a little hot. If his feet are cold, maybe he needs socks.

  • We keep our house about 60 at night depending on outside temprature (furnace turned off and all the windows open) and DD sleeps in either a pocket diaper and thin footie jammies with a light blanket, or a long sleeve t-shirt, wool soaker and light blanket.  She wakes up sweaty if we put more on her.

  • Um, wow. It's usually around 78 in our house (it's 100 degrees out, I don't want the electric bill to be 400 bucks!) and she sleeps in a pocket diaper and thin cotton PJs (short sleeves and long pants, sometimes shorts) We don't bother with a blanket usually, although we use the A+A swaddling blanket sometimes.

When she was a newborn we put her down with a muslin swaddle and a onesie and socks!

She sleeps through the night, so I'm not worried.
