Decrease in wet diapers...

Over the past few days, I've noticed that Tegan has had very few wet diapers. Today, I didn't change a single wet diaper (or at least one that was wet enough to tell that it was wet), but she did drink a sippy and a half of watered down juice (about 2 oz juice to 7 oz water), so I know she's drinking.

We finally got rid of her two 8 oz bottles of milk, about 2 weeks ago and now she won't drink milk, at all, from a sippy, but she's still drinking at minimum 1 sippy of water (most of the time 2 or 3) during the day.

Should I be concerned with the decrease in wet diapers?

  • Maybe I'm not reading it right but is she ONLY drinking 1 sippy of any liquid during the day?  That doesn't seem like nearly enough...

  • How many days is it going on with only 1 sippy of water?

I would keep offering her milk and only milk the next few days, and once she starts drinking more of that, then offer water again as well.

But if this continues for more then another day or so of no (or hardly any) fluids, its time to make a change, and if that means bringing back the bottle then so be it. They can get dehyrdated so easily and you live in a hot (like I need to tell you that!) climate.

  • My pediatrician and I are not really worried about her drinking milk. I do continue to offer the milk, but I also make sure she gets dairy/calcium from other sources. I would go hardcore and offer milk and only milk except for the fact that it is 100+ degrees here and I can't take the risk of her not drinking anything all day. I think I may have found a solution this evening. I gave her take and toss sippy instead of the new insulated sippy that I had been giving her. She drank the entire take n toss sippy of water before bed, which should make for a full morning diaper, lol! Maybe she's just having a tough time getting fluid out of the insulated sippy... I think I'll stick with the take n toss at home and use the insulated when we're out and about. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the number of wet diapers.

Actually, that first statement is a lie. I worry about her not drinking milk... but pedi said it was fine if she doesn't....
