Tandem vs Side-by-Side Stroller...

I'm totally putting the cart before the horse, but I like looking at strollers online so I'm getting a head start and would like opinions. Which do you like better?

And sorry to ask a stroller question, it must be as bad for you guys as the poop questions for the 0-3'ers.

Re: Tandem vs Side-by-Side Stroller...

  • I have both.  I have a Baby Jogger City Select tandem and a BOB Duallie side-by-side.

For my errands and most outings I prefer the BJCS.  I find it less obstructive and easier to get in and out of places.

For long walks, runs, etc I prefer the BOB Duallie.  I also take the BOB on all of my beach trips since it can go through sand (but this isn't true of all side-by-sides obviously).  Side by sides are also easier to navigate curbs with.

Let's just say that I wouldn't be able to shop in half of the stores I want to with a side by side.  Especially stores like Gymboree which seem to be narrower and more cramped than stores like Banana Republic and JCrew.  Go figure.  Also, if I do grocery shop with the stroller and a basket I feel like I am taking up less room in the aisle.

  • I have a side by side (bumbleride indie) and love it.  I haven't met a doorway I can't get through yet.  It's so easy to maneuver by myself.  It is hard in some clothing stores that are cramped, but I don't usually shop for clothes alone.

  • I have the combi twin sport which is SBS and I really like it. In theory, you'd think it would be tough getting around places, but I take it to the mall/doctor's office all the time and it fits through all standard doorways. My favorite features on it is the fact that it folds up really quick (WAY easier than any single stroller I've seen!) and it's really lightweight. The storage kind of stinks, and it doesnt have cupholders, but those are easy to work around.

  • Thanks everyone, I never thought about navigating curbs... hmm. And it's fascinating how children's stores and children's sections (especially in Target) have smaller isles than anywhere else. So frustrating. I'm lusting over the Kolcraft Contours Options Tandem and (if I win the lottery) Stroll-Air My Duo. I really like the idea of the babies facing me, I think that is why DS isn't a fan of the stroller I have now.
