If we have a girl, her initals will either be MJ or AJ. I think both are cute as a nickname. We'd use it as an unofficial nn though. Like my niece is Emily, but will answer to Emily, Emmy, Em, Emmers, etc. Cute or not?
Cam's nn was supposed to be CJ. I purposely gave her a C first name and J middle name so I could use CJ -- I NEVER call her that though. I think once she is in school, it might stick.
Our son is JD, so obviously I like it just fine. I do think it is more of a "boy thing" than for a girl, but I have known two girls called MJ and one BJ.
Re: thoughts on inital nicknames
LOVE it!

I don't like initial nn for boys though. Funny!
MJ is cute! I feel like some initials 'work' like that, and some don't.
DH desperately wanted to use an intial nn for our boy's name, first time around.

We would call DS CJ if we didn't already have a nephew that goes by CJ. Also, my brother is BJ and I get called DJ sometimes.
DD's initials are LLJ and we sometimes call her LL Cool J
