My sister just asked me what I'll do if I go into labor or my water breaks while I'm in the middle of teaching class. This year I'm teaching all child related classes so I guess it would be a good example of what can happen. (kidding...sort of) Anyway, I know that it's not usually as abrupt as in the movies but I was just wondering, where were you when you realized you were in labor?

Re: Where were you when you went into labor?
haha, this. i was induced so i was at the hospital.
Ditto. I always wonder when/how I would have gone into labor if I hadn't been induced.
First time my water broke at home.
Second time I was induced.
Ditto!!
My water broke while I was sitting on a friend's (rather new) couch. Fortunately, it was a very slight trickle so nothing got on their couch.
Unfortunately, It was such a slight trickle that it was a few hours before I realized that perhaps my water had broken.
Same here. My water never broke, I just experienced contractions. There was no mad rush to the hospital. I didn't even realize that I was having contractions when I went to bed that night. Zzz...
At home. Got up in the morning and a gallon of mucus came out. ick
W/ Jack, I was at the hospital having an induction
W/ Tops, I have no idea when it broke. When I checked into the hospital, it was in tact, when Tommy was born, the Dr. asked the nurses when my water broke and everyone just kinda looked around going, "Zuh?"
At home, in bed, sleeping (4:50am).
FWIW, my water did break and we still didn't have a "mad rush" to the hospital. I took a shower, went back to bed, called the doctor when they finally opened, packed our hospital bags, dropped by my parents, and finally got to the hospital 6 hours later
Obviously, I wasn't having contractions, though.
I'm not help on the "what if you're in class" part cause it was like the movies ... there was suddenly this giant GUSH of water.
With DS#1: I was induced.
With DS #2: I'm not really sure, because my water broke some time on Sunday morning and I walked around all day with a trickle. Went to L&D that night and they told me it was nothing and sent me home. Went to my regular OB visit on Tuesday, where my doctor informed me my water had indeed broken and I had probably been running around for two days with a slow leak. Oopsie.
:-)
The Blog
I started feeling contractions that I didn't know where contractions @ my Fiance's sister's b-day party. I thought I slept wrong and my back hurt from the hard chairs since it was an outdoor picnic.
We went home later and started playing rock band with my sister, since my family had come into town (was supposed to go in for c-sec 2.5 days from actual date he was born).
I finally decided something was "going on" when I had to stop multiple times in one song to get on all fours and rock. Actually, I didn't think it, my mom did. She made us go to the hospital and I felt stupid like they were just going to send me home as a false alarm.
As soon as we got to the hospital and the nurse felt me to "check my progress" my water broke. Which was bad, because he was breech. Que the mad rushing and yelling of doctors and nurses because he was coming out and he wasn't allowed to. Sigh.
It was TOO eventful for me. I'd rather have a boring story :
I had one like the movies -- with my first, my water broke in Hooters. Klassy! Big splash and everything!
My second I just woke up with contractions and baby was born 2 hours later.
6-yr-old Elena and 4-yr-old Julia.

I was induced with Meredith, so it was easy to plan.
With Alex, I woke up during the night having contractions but went back to sleep. I awoke again around 2 am with a really intense contraction, and then my water broke.
Meredith, 6-1-06 and Alex, 11-5-09
Me too.
#1: 4 a.m. in my bed, started getting contractions
#2: at work, water broke
!!!TMI Alert!!!
At home after dinner, and after going poop for about the fourth time that evening. Wasn't a gush, but I definitely felt it. So that part was boring I guess, not like the movies.
However, there was somewhat of a mad rush after that. I had previously had no progress or even BH contractions, and as soon as my water broke, labor started and contrax went from 15 min apart (starting from about 20 min after my water broke) to 4 min apart in less than an hour. We had just enough time to throw stuff in the car (me, the whole time, going "DH why are you rushing? I could be at this for DAYS, okay? chillax!") before my contractions were 15, then 7, then 3-4 min apart. I guess I made up for lost time in the progress-making department.
In bed. Contractions started at 5:30 a.m. for me. I was able to sleep for a while longer and even go to the mall (hey, Sephora had some good freebies that weekend) before the contractions got too painful.
ETA: I had bloody show, too, so I knew it was real labor. My water didn't break until I was laboring in the tub at the hospital, about 12 hours later.
