Baby Carrier Recs

I definitely want to get a baby carrier for Baby #2 so I can have my hands free for Hailey.  What do you recommend?  We had an ERGO for H, but she hated it and we sold it. I want something that can be used right away and last awhile.  Thanks!

  • We love the Moby or the Sleepy Wrap!

  • I'm not an expert because I haven't tried a ton of them, but we used the Baby Bjorn (DH really liked to use this) and a ring sling with DS.

I started using the ring sling pretty early on and started using the Bjorn once he could hold his head up (within the first month or so, but I can't remember exactly).

  • DH preferred the Bjorn but he really doesn't like to use one at all.  He only used it in Disney when I got tired.  Sophie preferred the Moby wrap.  Gavin liked the Kozy Carrier.  The Moby is overwhelming at first w/ all the fabric but I just watched some YouTube videos and got the hang of it pretty fast.

  • The baby bjorn isn't really good for the baby (bad positioning and it carries them by the crotch), and it can be very hard on Mama's back too when they get bigger. I love my Ergo, and still use it all the time. I found the Moby great when the baby was little, but as she got bigger it was just too darn hot. I also have a Mei Tai carrier which I really like. That one might be better for you because it carry you through from little bitty baby through toddler.

  • Moby, Moby, Moby! I can't say enough good things about the Moby especially for a newborn. Yes it is overwhelming at first but just watch the Youtube videos. I have a Moby if you want to try it out first. It was a godsend for me.

  • Mia hated everything inward facing: Ergo, Moby, you name it.  We could only use a Bjorn later on :/

  • I have so many carriers, I love wearing dd. I like the moby but never use it, it is too hot right now. We have a bjorn but really only for dh to use, and we haven't used it yet with her, and may not. We have an ergo which I will use when she is older, and a mei tai which I love, and a ring sling, which is hands down my favorite. So easy to use, she loves it, and it is great. It took me a few tries to get it down but now it takes me like 2 seconds to get her in it. i just got a mesh one to use in the water.

  • I have the moby which I like (I have even used it with my toddler), but I agree it gets a little warm for this weather.  It's great if your indoors.  My favorite is the jeep carrier.  It was much cheaper than all the big brand ones and I love it.  It lasted through my son and I am using it already with my daugter (you can use it starting at 8 pounds).  I like that it expands as the baby gets bigger and its one of the few that I feel like she is secure in and I can walk around and use both hands.  I bought it at babys r us.

  • Baby Bjourn!!!  I wasn't sure if I wanted one of these but got one off ebay for $14 and it was one of my favorite baby products next to the bouncey seat.  I had an ERGO too but the Baby Bjourn is way better.

  • I just want to say too that while it is personal (and baby) preference the style of the bjorn is actually not good for the baby, since it makes them dangle more than others and puts too much weight on their hips, and that if you are going for that style the Ergo is actually better. If you want a forward facing one the Pikkolo is supposed to be better than the bjorn, and can be used after 3 months I think. I think there is a Beco that can also be used forward facing.

  • Ditto the Moby but it's quite hot. We have a Boba that I LOVE (can be worn front or back, and has a great nap hood, and also a mesh ring sling from https://babyette.net - it's great because we can take it to the beach/pool, it dries quickly and because of the mesh, it's VERY breathable. I've also heard great things about her gauze ones as well for hot weather.  There are some that are similar to the Moby, and versatile like it that are probably better for warmer weather. I just think the  thickness of the Moby fabric is tough in the warm months around here.  C LOVES when I carry him in the ring sling though, and I feel like I can do shopping, etc with less of a chance of a meltdown.
