Work from home ad in Parents magazine

Let me preface this by saying I would normally never even take a second look at an ad like this in a random magazine.  But... any chance it's legit?  It's not actualy a job opportunity, it's a site (apparently) where you can get training to be a medical billing specialist.  I know nothing on the subject.  Any thoughts?

  • Medical billing is something I've always wanted to look into but always feared they were scams.  Anyone know of legit ones?

Here's the site from Parents magazine, in case you're interested.

In the ad, it says it's "VA, GI-Bill, & MCAA approved"... whatever the heck that means!

You can get training in Medical billing through PIMA and Everest in our area also.  Its a legit career, but it doesnt pay that well.   You can also get work at home jobs working for call centers (ACS is a common one in our area) and they probably pay about the same as Med billing does and dont require you to go to school first.   Just a thought!

The GI-bill is an education benefit for veterans. Not sure what MCAA is, probably something similar.

My MIL owns a small medical transcription business, which was a great SAH job for me.  Luckily, I didn't even need training for it.  Just a lot of learn-on-the-job stuff with terminology and spelling.  I'll probably do it again when the kids are a little older.

  • I used to be a recruiter for a hospital system in my area. The info you see is probably legit, but for a nationally based company that is outsourced to smaller health care businesses. The positions like that directly for the hospital/doc offices in your area actually pay very well, but are extremely difficult to come by. The field of medical billing and coding has become very saturated as of late because of programs like this that offer "training and certification" without the associate's degree. HTH!
