Claritin-hyperactivity in kids?

Does anyone know If claritin can cause hyperactivity in kids? My ds has had some really bad seasonal allergies the last week or so and the doctor said to try children's zyrtex or claritin. Today, ds had his first tablet. He has been acting out a lot more recently , but this afternoon he was totally out of control. I've never seen him like this ever. He was mad about something and was super hyper. He reminded me of a kid on one of those shows about out of control kids..he finally calmed down but it was scary. I'll probably call his doctor tomorrow, but does anyone know if claritin can cause hyperactivity? Thanks!

  • I think they both can. I give DS1 claritin most days, but he doesn't always act hyper on the days he gets it. It's hit and miss...

My DS is off the wall on Claritin, Zyrtec or Benedryl. They are all like crack to him!

  • My neighbor's 4yo was nuts on it and could not sleep, she said she would never put him on it again regardless of how bad his allergies are and when she told me this it was months after he tried it and at the time his eyes were swollen and red.

I should add that she was trying to get other solutions, not just letting him suffer!  But his reaction was so horrible to Claritin that it was worse than the allergies.
