moving...again

We moved to MI exactly one year ago for DH's job and we are now moving back to

OH in a few weeks.  DH was offered a great job and this means that we can get back to family and what we consider home.  Its bittersweet though b/c we really like where we live now and have made some great new friends.  Moving back means that I will also probably have to go back to work.  I worked in education and we moved to a small town and jobs were limited plus I was not licensed in MI the way I am in OH.  I've kept in contact with the district I used to work in and they may have a position for me.

I'm already having anxiety about leaving DS but I know that millions of women do it and in the long run this will provide better opportunities for DS.  Just sorta sucks.

I'm also completely overwhelmed by trying to move and show this house with an infant who needs naps and bottles etc.

Anyone try and sell their house with an infant?  Any tips?

Re: moving...again

  • GL with the move. I can only imagine doing a state to state move with an infant. I would hire movers, if possible, to do a lot of the big moving stuff

I've never done a move with an infant but I think this is great advice to make sure to get a moving company to do the majority of it for you.

  • I am in the process of moving as we speak!  We had a moving company here all day packing and they will be  back tomorrow to finish packing and the moving truck comes thursday.  We were renting so we did not have to deal with showing the house.  Naps have been awful with all the added noise and commotion this week.  We are moving from Montana to Minnesota so it's a big move.  The moving company is worth every penny!  I think the hardest part is that we don't have a place to move into yet so our things are going into storage and we are staying with my parents so we need to bring everything that we would need for the next 1-2 months :(  I think 75% of the things were are bringing are baby related.

  • We sold our house when DS was 1.  You usually get at least 24 hours notice for showings so you'll have time to prepare.  I would just keep him in one area and clean the rest of the house and then right before the showing I would clean up his area, pack him up and go.  The annoying part is where to go during the showing.  Sometimes we would go to the park or run some errands or just walk the mall.

Since your baby isnt really mobile yet, getting ready for the showing should be easier since he wont be actively making a mess while you're trying to clean it up.  And you wont have showings every day (probably) so it's not like he will be totally disrupted, pushing back a nap or napping in the car seat every once in a while wont break him.

Try not to stress about this part too much because the selling process is stressful enough itself.  Good luck!!

This is what we are doing pretty much  - we are moving into a furnished rental until we figure out where we want to buy and gives us time to sell this house, plus leave it furnished for showings.  Luckily, DH's company will pay for movers and packers once we do move everything but in the meantime, I have to pack what we'll need for the next few months besides furniture (mostly clothes and DS's stuff).

    STRESS!!!!
