questions for 2nd opinion?

I have a phone consult with another clinic tomorrow but I am really at a loss for what to ask.  The only thing I can think of is what kind of a chance the Dr thinks we have with donor egg with DH's sperm (we have severe MFI in addition to my super awesome eggs).

Any ideas?  3 IVF's with no transfer doesn't make me think there's going to be some magic solution...

Re: questions for 2nd opinion?

  • I have a question about no transfers, has your old RE done any testing to determine why none survived in order to transfer? (I am so sorry that this is the case.) I would just want to hear what the new RE has to say about possible next steps and the clinic's success rates.

The first cycle we assumed it was a sperm issue because dh is azoo and the clinic suggested moving on to ds.  No one really thought the 2nd cycle would be different but I was hoping the first was a fluke and that trying again and using non-frozen sperm would help... at that point the RE mentioned that I probably had poor quality eggs in addition to sub-par sperm but couldn't comment on which was the major factor in our embryo degeneration.

This last cycle we used donor sperm and had the same results so it looks like i have sh*t for eggs :(   Even though II knew we had fairly low odds with my eggs, I think we all thought we'd at least make it to transfer with the ds.

  • Sorry gidge, I've seen your siggie but didn't know this much. Are you prepared for DE? Also, are you able to get a fresh sample without a tese? Or would YH have to do that again? ETA: aren't you glad you aren't my doctor? I always ask a million questions! :)

That's fine :)  We have never had anything found in a SA but we do have 2 vials frozen from his first mTESE.  He has made it clear he will not be doing that a 3rd time (not that I can blame him).

We're talking DE - just apprehensive because of the cost and because we don't know what our odds will be.  We debated it last summer but DH really thought the issue was his sperm and he wasn't willing to go the "expensive" route without some data proving that was the logical choice :)

  • Did they run a SCSA on ur DH's sperm?  Or a tunnel test.  They only need a few to run these test.  They did them for my DH, and he only had 7 in his count.

With SOOOO much riding on it (DE, cost), It could be worth it to deforst some and preform these tests (if u have not already).

They would offer the best picture of what ur DH is dealing with.  GL

up to now we haven't really considered any destructive sperm testing since it would use up one of our samples (we were planning on using one for our last cycle and saving one in case we needed DE .... since we didn't use one last cycle I'm not sure if we'll reconsider.)
