C and I have thrush. We finally got on medication today, so I have been sterilizing everything. The internet tells me that all the milk I froze while we had it has to be thrown away, and I can't store any milk in the freezer while we are being treated. It breaks my heart to throw out milk. Anyone have experience with this? Any comforting words? DH says he will be the one to do it because I already cried about it once today.

Re: Thrush *vent*
We're dealing with thrush over here too. We've been on meds for the last 10 days and I'm not sure it's any better
, I have to call the nurse and get her to come and check.
I don't pump to store in the freezer, but what I do know is that you can take the milk you've pumped with the thrush and use it while you still have thrush. I'm sure you have more than you need, but use it now while you still can. The literature I received said you can still keep it if you really want, but to just be aware that it could bring on thrush again, so your choice.
It sucks though, I totally understand. Thrush sucks.

My nipples burn. I thought C had developed a bad latch or something, but my nipples just look red, there is no break in the skin. My OB took one look and said "thrush". C's tongue is a little white and she isn't wanting to suck as much as she did last week.
We have a pretty decent stash, but it hurts me to throw a big chunk of it out. I think we've had this for a few days, so I am throwing out from the last week, 15oz per day.
Just want to say I'm totally jealous that you can save 15oz/day.
well, crap.
I had bad thrush with my first and I'm telling you, grapefruit seed extract! If you google it with thrush you will get lots of information about it. But basically, you get the drops and dilute it in water and use it as a solution for both your nipples and LO's mouth. It's just a little bitter tasting so LO might make a face when you swipe it around. You just do it with a Q-Tip. I want to say you do it after every feeding. I also did a vinegar wash on my nips and used APNO (all purpose nipple ointment) that you can get a compound pharmacy. You can also use other OTC creams but APNO has a little of everything, including ibuprofen for a little pain relief for those burning nipples.
In addition I took acidophilus supplements and the pill form of grapefruit seed extract and I TRIED to stay away from sugar and dairy for a few weeks but I wasn't so diligent about that part.
I saw a different with LO's tongue in a few days and I felt TONS better after a few days. I had suspected it was in my ducts so I really wanted to wipe it out. Nystatin, btw, is made with a sugar suspension which yeast thrives on so I don't really understand how it can be considered effective. I guess for some it is but I always read how it sucks.
Just wanted to pass this on...it worked so well for me!
