Baby Names

Jozsef?

Oh goodness, just saw this as a middle name on the 1st trimester board.  Poor kid..imagine having to correct people constantly about the spelling of your name.  Why do parents do this?
MC 6/20/11 @ 7.5 Wks.~ "Dear Lord, I would have loved to have held my babies on my lap and tell them about you, but since I didn't get the chance, would you please hold them on your lap and tell them about me?"

Re: Jozsef?

  • Thank Jesus she's only in her 1st tri.  Hopefully someone will talk her out of that ridiculousness over the next 26ish weeks.

  • a) it's a legitimate ethnic spelling

    b) I know very, very, very few people who have to "correct people constantly" when it comes to their MIDDLE names, so who cares?

    This!

Yes, how dare parents give their child a legitimate name from a different culture. How terrible! Why would they do that? Imagine having a name that could mean something to them or be a family name. Yeah, poor kid.

hahaha, Cre8tive made me laugh only because we joke at work that people aren't going to know how to spell in the future because of writing things like this! Just thought it was funny!

    Jozsef?
LOVE it! Hungarian names are my favorite group, overall. (Of course there are some I like, and some I don't like, just like any other origin.)

I was very excited when I saw this post title. Now I'm just laughing at the epic OP fail. It reminds me of the Seamus thread from last year.

ETA: I just went back and read the Seamus thread. I really like Feffy's answer:

"That sure is a bold statement coming from someone who is so new to the boards. Lurk for awhile. It will help you from writing outlandish things that make you look foolish."

There is another really easy way to avoid this happening again. If you are about to post about a name you've never heard of, and you suspect it of being cre8ive, just take 5 seconds to look it up on www.BehindTheName.com It's the website that most of us trust for legitimate baby names. Of course it's your prerogative if you still want to bash it after finding out that it's legitimate. But at least you'll know what kind of responses to expect.

I also thought of the Seamus thread. I think of that thread any time a post like this comes up. Sadly, there are quite a few of them. So much for the melting pot and all that jazz...

I am Hungarian and this is my grandfathers name.  Very common, as it is our version of Joseph...as everyone else has already pointed out.
