Water served when having solid foods.Started off removing the stopper from the sippies to make access to the liquid easier. Created quite the wet mess, but the boys got the hang of it. Then moved to straw sippies, had the most luck with staw sippies with handles (I think the brand is Playtex).
Water. My pedi said no water until 9 months and to use Pedialyte. Um, no. Unless she's bankrolling all the wasted Pedialyte, it's going to be water. An oz or two of water a day while practicing with a sippy will not give a 7 month old seizures from overhydration.

It's so funny how doctor advice changes over time. My mom said when I was a baby they said to give a bottle or two of water a day!

All of this. My MIL suggested water when my dd had constipation at about one month (she did it with her boys). The pedi didn't agree (surprise, surprise). We started practicing with water in a sippy a couple weeks ago.

I saw someone giving a baby full of water recently and I have to admit, I gave it the side-eye.
A friend's pedi tells her to give her girls a bottle of juice every day to combat constipation from rice cereal. I thought that was totally old school because I didn't know any docs recommended juice in bottles anymore.
Water only. My pedi said I could do a teeny bit of juice if I wanted, but she recommended cold water. My mom is all about "you should give them juice!", but if they'll take straight water, I'm not giving them extra sugar.
My pedi also said that most babies don't like formula in a sippy. It hits a different spot on their tongue, and if you've ever tasted formula, it's nast. I don't blame them.
We went through several sippy options, and so far, they seem to love these Nuby ones:

We've just used water but I might try a bit of formula soon. I definitely wouldn't waste BM.
