Staph Infection on the Bottom?

Our post-daycare diaper change yesterday revealed a really red, spotty bottom. I?ve noticed a few spots like these over the last 3 weeks, on and off, some days totally off. But nothing like this. 

He did go in for his 12 month checkup 3 weeks ago, where the doc noticed red marks in his leg creases suggesting a yeast-like infection and suggesting lotrimin. I assumed this was that again! Bad mom

Anyway, I feel horrible I missed this - does it sound like that is the issue? And what causes this type of infection? We?re taking him in this afternoon for Antibiotics!

You are making me a little worried what does this look like compared to a reg diaper rash or a yeast diaper rash...

He?s never had diaper rash really, so I can?t compare...but his day care provider has been doing this for 20 years, so if she says its Staph and not normal rash, I should believe her, right?

 It?s splotchy. And then there are spots, some the size of dimes and some small, the size of peas. It?s not terribly raised, just really red and hurts him obviously

Does it look infected?  Like pimples?  It could be staph.  My DS had it on his face.  Google impetigo if you want to see images.  We had to treat it w antibiotic ointment 3x a day for 10 days.  

If I were you I would put neosporin on it under any dipe rash cream.  Then take him to the dr.

I think I would be concerned about your daycare provider too.  Staph infection, along the buttocks and back of the legs can very likely be from the changing station not being cleaned after EVERY diaper change.  Something as simple as a wipe down with a lysol cloth.  My neice got a staph infection from her daycare and it was a huge reddened and painful area.  If your daycare provider is so well versed on what a staph infection looks like from her experience....maybe she should clean more.  Just a thought.
