would you go on vacation without kiddos if they were sick?

Dh & I are leaving Friday for our 5th anniversary. Vacation.ds#1 19 months has had a fever since Friday & it reached 105.5 last night. We went to doc office today, after doing blood work he said he thinks its a virus. He said if its still high come back Wed. I can't look forward to our trip BC I'm really worried for him. I feel guilty too. My mil will be watching them for half the time, she's a nurse so I know she will know what to do if he still has fever. My parents will watch them the other half & my mom is kinda a dumb blonde. That's terrible to say. Bur she is just kinda clumsy hyper lady. I Will leave detailed instructions for her but I really am worried about leaving boys while one is sick. Uggg tell me he will be okay. & if something happened he would be in good hands. .

  • Could you possibly leave both kids with MIL? I'm sure your mom would be offended, but if I were going away and leaving sick kids, I'd prefer them with a nurse.

To answer the original question-I'd probably go unless one of them was horribly ill (ie needed to be hospitalized).

I wouldn't go if it was my kiddos.  I know DH will feel the same way.  We would not enjoy our vacation thinking about our sick kiddies back home.  Having a cold/runny nose is one thing, a high fever would concern me too much.

  • I couldn't go if he still had a high fever when we were going to leave.  That said, Friday is a long time from now in sick land.  If it's just a fever from a virus, it should break pretty soon and hopefully DS will be well on the mend by Friday.  If your MIL is watching them first and DS is feeling better by then, I'd probably go, depending on the trip.  How far away are you going, for how long and how quickly could you get back if there was an issue, etc.
  • No, I wouldn't go. I probably couldn't enjoy myself and just spend the whole time worrying.

Sorry. I hope he gets better soon.

  • It depends.

If it was just a cold or mild sickness and I trusted the person I was leaving them with, yea, I would probably go.

But a fever?  Probably not.  I would be way too worried.

But like a PP said, the fever will likely be long gone by Friday!
