Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

When Do Toddlers Begin Playing with Blocks?

My son loves to rip them down from his mega block table, but when will he start trying to stack them back up and build?  I'm trying to decide whether it's worth taking the table over to my mother in laws' yet, or if I should take over the activity cube & wait on the blocks (she watches him all day 4 days/week, and gets very cranky about having to have any toys over there, so we have to keep things minimal).

Re: When Do Toddlers Begin Playing with Blocks?

  • DD likes to stack 2 blocks but can't do more than that yet.  I just bought a wood set for her to play with and so far she loves them!  We'll be working on stacking from now on.  :-)

  • My two and a half yr old nephew taught my DS how to stack more than two blocks. I think when my DS sees another kid playing he tries to imitate them.

Although, he still prefers for me to build a tower and for he to knock it down!

  • DD started stacking blocks a few months ago.  She is much better at stacking with the oversized legos than regular blocks.  With regular blocks she still prefers to knock them down.
