Just got the results from the newborn screening test. LO has Hemoglobin E trait, which is no concern for him, but in the future if he decides to have his own family. Anyone else?
our son might have hemoglobin trait E. we are just waiting for the second test results to tell us if he does positively. Are you or your husband of southeast asian decent? My husband is vietnamese so our pediatrician said that is where he probably got it. She said it is not that big of a deal and he will just be anemic. The only thing is that he has a heart issue and if he needs the major surgery to fix the hole in his heart he might need a blood transfusion. What has your dr told you about it? im interested to learn more about it.

I'm part filipino and my own dr just put me on iron pills a few years ago and was watching my red blood cells so he probably got it from me. I know it's no big deal for him, but it may become an issue once he decides to have his own family. I have been surfing the internet to find more info and found this website which spells it out clearly.
