I succeeded!  I have no idea why I was such a chicken about it.

Having switched B's diaper bag to my old college backpack, I'm now questioning why I didn't get a backpack style diaper bag.  Seriously, that was so much easier than a shoulder bag. 

The weather was beyond fabulous too, which made it even better.

About the diaper bag...we DID use a regular old bookbag as a diaper bag.  So much easier to tote around and very unisex   I crack up when I see guys carrying around flowery diaper bags!

This. I don't know why we didn't get a book bag sooner. So much easier and DH feels so much more manly carrying it.
