Cloth Diapering

Thrush and yeast - Please Help :(

Hey guys,

My baby girl has thrush that was diagnosed super early and is only in her mouth. I know yeast is hard to get rid of with cloth diapers. Is there anything special I need to be doing to prevent her from getting a yeast rash since she already has thrush?

Re: Thrush and yeast - Please Help :(

  • Honestly I would use sposies until it is gone. I'm dealing with yeast right now and it's no fun. I wouldn't risk it personally. Others may have other options if you want to keep using your CDs...I hate sposies, but I hate yeast more Smile

Are you breastfeeding?  If you are I'd make sure to get a lot of probiotics (such as pearls) into your system.  It will help you both.  My DS never got thrush but we both had yeast issues from both being on antibiotics when he was born.  We were passing the yeast back and forth to each other.  I used disposables until it cleared up only because I was scared to contaminate my stash.

  • But since she already has thrush is the yeast already on the cloth diapers?
  • It's only already on the cds if she has a yeast rash.  DD had it only in the mouth and never on the bum.  It took forever to get rid of it.  What worked best was gentian viotet (so super messy) and probiotics for me and her.  Also, during bath time give her a baking soda soak just to help prevent it in the diaper area.

  • I would use some Motherlove Diaper Rash and Thrush cream for her bottom.  It is CD friendly.

  • I haven't had my LO yet but I anticipate having this problem if we get put on antibiotics. When I had Lyme Disease last summer and was put on an awful course of meds, the only thing that got my system back on track was a probiotic called Threelac. It's sold in boxes on Amazon, and it comes in little packets that look like Crystal Lite that you can stir into water or juice. I've struggled with yeast all my adult life and it's the only thing that's really helped. Good luck.
