Hi everyone,
I have always been a very petite and active person so I have always had trouble gaining weight. I am concerned that at 100 pounds and six weeks pregnant that I am not eating enough, although I am eating all the time. Has anyone ever been put on a food plan by your doctor to make sure you are gaining enough? I am not sure how much I need to gain during the first trimester but I have gained a pound since last week.
Thank you!
Re: weight gain...
women only "need" to gain 20-30lbs *tops* during pregnancy. And there is no schedule to do this.
if it makes you feel any better, my mom was 99lbs when she conceived me (and like you had a hard time gaining weight) and was 120lbs when I was born. And I was an 8lb 13oz baby!
You only need a few extra hundred calories a day being pregnant, so just follow your hunger cues.
Ditto PP, I didn't gain any weight in my first trimester, and in the end I had gained about 25 lbs when I delivered.
FWIW, my mother gained 17lbs with my older sister, and 40lbs with me, and we were both 6lb 5oz babies.

Like the pp's mentioned you don't have to gain weight in any given frame. Many people dont gain anything in the first three months due to morning sickness, etc. I had my baby 2 weeks ago, started at 109 lbs, gained 27 for the entire pregnancy, much of it toward the end which is normal, and had a 8lb 10 oz boy, who had he not been breech and taken before 40 weeks would have easily been 9 lbs. I was weirded out about the weight gain too, gaining enough and also gaining at all as I had been the same weight for 16 years prior to pregnancy. One thing though, it does come off, I lost 17 lbs in the first 9 days or so. Because I had a c-section I can't exercise like I normally would, but I have been moving and feel confident the other 10 lbs will melt off as well. No worries, you'll gain weight appropriately and if you don't your doctor will let you know.
