DD just turned 2, we aren't ready to start PTing just yet. She's definitely interested in the toilet and tells us when she goes poop (in case we missed her squished up face and squating, LOL!). But she's going to be a big sister in a couple of months so we thought it would be better to start PTing a few months after that so she doesn't regress. But a co-worker of mine who has a DD who wil be 2 next month mentioned that her DD is already wearing Pull Ups during the day. She's not PTing just yet either but my co-worker said they started using them so that her DD would get that wet feeling after peeing and that's supposed to help with PTing. She said she read it somewhere, in a magazine or something. Anyone else start using Pull Ups months in advance for the same reason? TIA!
Re: When did you switch to Pull Ups?
I did not because they're expensive
I waited until she was staying dry about half of the time and peeing in the potty when prompted every couple of hours or so.
This! when she started PT'ing at first i was putting panties on her, but she was having some accidents so then i started buying the pull-ups. I usually by the target or rite-aid brand.
I did not do that either and I PT'd my dd at 22 months. She wore pull-ups just at nighttime bc she was mainly staying dry... in fact, I would have her wear panties w/ a pull-up over them. ?She was staying dry about 75% of the time and that way I could reuse the pull-ups. The eco-friendly person in me could not bear to throw away a perfectly dry pull up.?
IMO, the best way to PT is go immediately to underwear. I honestly think pull-ups or diapers are fine for naps and nighttime, depending on your child, but for daytime, they need to be in underwear.?
Haven't started yet. I only used them at night with KJ or over top of his underwear when we were out in public places or extra long car rides. Not all pull ups let them feel wet either, they have to be the feel and learn style.
This is what we've done. We started PTing hardcore at 23months (she was pretty used to the potty by then) and switched to underwear all day long. At night and for naps she wore pull-ups starting at that point. She's just recently started staying dry for nap, so we're not using pull-ups then anymore. I'd say if you're not ready to PT her yet, wait it out and then when you are, put her in underwear.
Bubblegum Explosion
We went straight to underwear when we started training, but continued to use her night diapers at night. I really don't think she would have noticed a difference between the diapers and the pull ups when it comes time to pee. A diaper's a diaper a diaper.
When we ran out of overnights it was also becoming an extreme fight to get the diapers on her at bedtime, so I picked up a pack of trainers from Whole Foods. I didn't want all those extra "turns cool" chemicals. I'll stick to these generic trainers at night time until we start night training.
