I actually know someone this happened to - my former boss. Her parents who live in FL got a call from their "grandson" needing money because he was in jail. Maybe something to pass along to our grandparents.

Older citizens have received calls from someone claiming to be a young relative. The callers say they need money wired to them because they are being detained until they pay for damages to someone else's vehicle in a traffic accident. The callers promise to pay the money back once they return to the United States.
"This is a scam!" the Sheriff's Office news release warns.
At least one person, the office says, wired $4,800 to someone believed to be a grandson. The victim later learned the story was made up.
The Sheriff's Office is telling potential victims that they can protect themselves by getting a call-back number and seeking help through law enforcement or other relatives.
