Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Never using LUVS again... pip *UPDATED*

UPDATED: So I contacted LUVS and told them my story, they responded telling me they will mail me 4 $10 coupons to use towards Pampers (part of the P&G family that includes LUVS). I had told them in the email I had been using Pampers previously.  I'm quite pleased :)

Oh... and DD DID have some of the gel in her mouth this morning - which was quite upsetting!!  Here is part of their response letting me know it is safe to ingest...

"The absorbent gelling material used in the padding to absorb wetness has a long history of safe use in a variety of products and has been in Pampers and Luvs diapers for more than two decades. Even if this material is ingested, it will pass through without harming the digestive system and will be excreted naturally.  Absorbent gelling material (AGM) is closely related to ingredients widely used in cosmetics and in food packaging. When added to our diapers, the AGM is dry and granular but it forms a gel as it absorbs liquid. While it's perfectly normal to see some gel on the skin from time to time, especially if the diaper is heavily saturated, what you've described shouldn?t have happened."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DD has been leaking out of every diaper we use at night so I bought a box of LUVS thinking I'd give them a try.  Well this morning I woke up to Alex covered in the gel crap that is inside the diapers - it exploded over night!  It was in her hair, on her clothes and all over the crib - a huge mess!  This has happened before when I would put her in her baby pool with one of them on, but never has this happened overnight.  She had only been in the diaper for 5 hours so it wasn't like it was TOO full.

Never buying this product again!

*sorry pics are so big!

Oooh... you may want to read TicketTuesday's story about the Up&Ups a little lower on the board.

    A public poop-tastrophe.

We're actually a luvs family and Pampers diapers did that to us!

Crazy how different diapers work for different babies!

  • DD uses Pampers Swaddlers at night. There are two kinds - dry max has the gel thingies like the Luvs, but the Sensitive do not. At night time, she leaked through Huggies, Luvs, and Pampers Baby Dry.The Swaddlers cost just a little more, but they're worth it. We still use all those other brands as her "daytime" diapers without any problems.

  • Wow, that is embarrasing re: poop-tastrophe!  We've tried everything, including cloth and she still leaks. Wonder what to try next??

  • There was a poster who had problems with their LO leaking over night as well but there are diaper inserts you can add that will help I guess. I have never tried them but it would be worth a shot.

  • YUCK! We had the same thing happen (but not that extreme) with Huggies. She has leaked through Huggies, Luvs, and Pampers. The only diapers we've found that work are the Pampers with Dry Max. And no.. the Dry Max doesn't leak out or give her a rash.. as it does with some people.

  • Wow not good! We use luvs and I like them and as PP said it's they are the only ones that don't seem to leak. The only thing I've found with them is they seem to run smaller so I've found I've had to go the next size up earlier than suggested especially for night time.

Have you tried going up a size?

She is in a size 3, which is "technically" too big, as she is only ~ 14 pounds or so.  I think size 3 starts at 16 pounds?

  • I'm pretty sure Luvs had a leak-proof guarantee.  I remember something on the box about if you have a problem to contact them.  I would if I were you.  They need to know to improve that part of the diaper.  A baby could eat that stuf and get sick!

  • We had major leak issues with Huggies when DS was a newborn. Have used both Pampers and Costco brand since and have had no issues. Costco dipes are cheaper and I love them, but we're in between sizes right now, so we're using Pampers again.

Try the Huggies overnight diapers in a size up.  It sounds like your LO is a super heavy wetter, so they may not work, but DD was having issues leaking through diapers (including Luvs), and these work great for her.  It surprises me how massive they are in the morning, but they've never burst or leaked.

I remember looking at buying "overnight" diapers and I remember the weight limits being really big - like 20 lbs, and thinking they would be TOO big for DD. Maybe I should try them anyway...

  • Oh no! I love, love, love my cloth. What did you use and how did it leak?

  • I know this may sound silly, but are you sure you're putting the diaper on right?

When my DD wets a diaper, the bottom half near her butt is the part that's soaked, not the very top of the diaper. It's hard to tell from the picture, but it seems like all the urine is at the very top of the diaper while the rest doesnt look that full.

You may need to pull the front part higher up on her belly.

  • OMG I would have been ripped!  No pun intended.  I tried them all  Luvs, Pamps, Huggies, Target, Rite Aid brand (DONT EVER USE THESE!) and found that the pampers overnite work best.  My LO weighs 1lb heavier in the AM because she is a super soaker.

And as the other  very competent moms have already stated, a size up is a good way to go, especially at night.

So sorry for your trouble.. like we don't do enough picking up of stuff already, right? :)

  • Wow that sucks!  We exclusively use Luvs and have never had any problems with them.  It's so crazy how diapers can be so different for each baby.

lol...I'm pretty sure I'm putting it on right, the whole diaper was swollen but it did explode out of the top!
