Brett on a girl???

In the store a dad was calling over and over for Brett to come.  I was expecting a boy but it was a girl around 6-7.  It was definitely Brett and not Britt like for Brittany.  Is Brett short for any sort of girl name or is this just another situation of a boy name for a girl?  She didn't look like a Brett at all, poor girl.

I've heard of two female Bretts!  

Remember that sitcom "Grace Under Fire" The woman who played Grace was called Brett Butler in real life. 

There's also a girl guitarist called Brett Anderson in a well-known-ish band "The Donnas"

I dont think its short for anything, I actually know a girl named Brett. She loves her name but I have never been one for the boy girl name switch.

It makes me think of Brett Butler the comedian from the 90's sitcom Grace Under Fire. I'm not surprised people use it for girls. It's not a very strong masculine name IMHO.

OP, I know two girls named Brett and one named Britt.  I also know a Mary Brett.  All are family names.

I know a little curly blonde haired, blue eyed girl named Brett. I'm not a fan of it. Her brothers are Brandon and Carter, very boys names. Her mom is Natalie, which is such a nice feminine name, not to mention they look exactly alike. The poor little thing.

Rhett Butler is the main male character in Gone With the Wind, played by Clark Gable in the movie.  The picture above is Brett Butler, a comedian!

I know 3 Tatum's, one is 15, one is 13 and one is 8 months.  There is the actress Tatum O'Neill, I'm sure that's where the trend started.

As for Brett, there was a soap opera character years ago named Brett who was female.

There are many, many Bretts in Wisconsin. A girl Brett is definitely not that out there in this neck of the woods. That being said I still strongly dislike the boy  name for a girl trend.

Tatum has always been a girl's name. Perhaps you are confusing it with Tate.

I think of Brett Butler and a character from the John Jakes "North and South" series when I think of female Bretts. Seems kind of southern, to me.
