September 2011 Moms

Only if you're as insanely bored as I am ...

Take a peek at my registry. I appreciate ANY feedback since I am a FTM and an over-thinker (great combo!) FYI - we have the nursery stuff done, stroller and carseat are bought (Uppababy and Chicco Keyfit)

If you don't help/peek I don't blame you :) I am just bored on modified bedrest and watching DH play video games hah

  • It looks pretty good.  I would add a few more of the SwaddleMe blankets if it were me.  We swore by those with DD#1.  I'm also not sure why you would really need 2 nursing covers.  1 is more that sufficient in my experience.  Do you already have a diaper bag?

  • I don't think you need that many towels.  we had three and I thought that was too many.  And I think you'll find that you won't even have to register for them because people will be getting them anyways because they think they are cute.

you'll probably want some type of thermometer/medicine "kit"

I would suggest adding a pack of white prefold cloth diapers (gerber has them) to use as burp cloths.  You will probably get a ton of cute kind, but these work the absolute best IMO.

do you have pack n play sheets?

humidifier.  i can't tell you how many times we've used that.  lost count.

do you need hangers?  think ahead to all the clothes you will probably get and/or buy in the future and throw some on there if you don't think you have enough.

that's all i can think of off the top of my head.  what you have is good though!

I will take off one nursing cover. Again this was something I am clueless about hah. I do have a diaper bag already. I only put one SwaddleMe on their bc someone gave us two boy ones as hand-me-downs. Maybe I will add another girly one though.

    Thank you!

  • Unlike PP, we hated the Swaddle Me blankets. We swear by Aden and Anais for swaddling because we perfected the art of swaddling by the time DS was about 6 weeks. They are great for later on too. DS uses them to nap with now.

I will take some towels off :) All the "med" kits had crappy reviews but maybe I will add one.

Just added a humidifier :) Thank you!

Bought a ton of hangers at Target.

    Will add pack-n-plauy sheets :)

  • Ok mama, here's my honest opinion. I love your swing choice and really was going to go with something similar but opted out because it's battery operated ONLY. I  hated using batteries because it's so expensive. I went with a swing that has an adapter to plug in and you can use batteries. I would recommend checking into that, especially if you are planning on having more children. It would be the best thing for you as far as money saving, not having to worry about replacement batteries when your baby is fussy, etc. HTH

  • I'd add at least one more Boppy cover -- I have two, and actually would've liked another. DS always seemed to spit up on them.

Are you planning on using pacifiers?

    A bottle brush?

I couldn't live without a car mirror -- I know "they" say they aren't safe, blah blah bah...but we still use one. We have the SafeFit mirror that BBB sells.

I'd skip the Medela gift set. The pump will come with several small bottles, and you can always use the bigger bottles if you need more. I never used the hard milk storage containers, just the bags. I had the same set, and only used the storage bags -- and the Lansinoh bags you're registered for are MUCH better.

As far as thermometer, I highly recommend the Vick's rectal. Don't waste your time/money on fancy temporal or ear thermometers -- they're highly unreliable. A rectal thermometer is best for babies.

We have the Boon frog pod and LOVE it. The lady bug one is so cute. :) And I think you made a great choice on the PNP -- I can't believe some of the ridiculous options they have for those....the "fancier" versions certainly aren't worth $100 more than they one you chose!

This about the boppy covers. I think I registered for three of them because a friend said they will spit up all over them.

Also, you may want to register for several different types of bottles because everyone tells me their babies have a preference. I think I registered for four: Medela, Advent, Born Free and Adari (I can only find Stage 1 online but they are like a boob so I'm keeping my fingers crossed they will work.).

Okay, I LOVE the grass drying 'rack' thing from Boon..I registered for that, too! It is cute and fun. I have a double-tiered round rack that spins, but found it flops around with DD's bottles...I may still use it if I need the room, but the grass one is just more fun!

I also registered for the Aden & Anais swaddling cloths. I saw a woman out who had them for her twins, and she raved about them! We live in the South, and she said her babies do not get hot and sweaty in the muslin, so I am thinking we made a good choice there.

I like the high chair you have registered for, but I can tell you it isn't necessary. I bought the Fisher Price booster seat for DD, and I love it. It's height is adjustable, comes with a tray and an insert and cover for the tray, and I can bring it anywhere we go. Plus, it's maybe $28 brand new, and I found a second one for Grandma's house for $10 on craigslist.

I have heard great things about Sophie the giraffe(teether toy), and have registered for one for this baby.

Otherwise, I think your registry is quite complete! Great job  Big Smile

  • I don't know if I have any suggestions, but I think it looks pretty good with the suggestions of the other 2nd time mommas...It was fun looking at yours and comparing to mine! My only other thought would be a bottle dishwasher basket, I heard these come in handy esp if you end up using Dr Brown bottles with a million different parts! I cant wait to use all of this stuff!

FTM here, so take my opinion on this for what it's worth, but I registered for this swing as well, and someone already got it for me.  I am SUPER excited about setting it up.  I did have a 2nd time mom friend tell me about how to watch out for battery powered vs. adapter (I NEVER thought of this, haha), but I chose this anyways because I have had 2 other 2nd time moms and dads SWEAR by this swing!  I have had a few other parents argue the fact that since it isn't powered by adapter then you won't have to worry about an electrical fire (we have so many other things plugged into our walls that this wouldn't even concern me as much as it should, haha), AND that it will be less electricity being used...just sayin' what I was told.  Plus, I don't mind stocking up on some batteries. Just my 2 cents...

  • we used our swing daily for about 6 months and never had to replace the batteries.

  • You guys are awesome :)

    - I didn't like the mirrors at BB and am just buying them myself at Target.

    - Dishwasher basket not needed since I live in a house without one! (I might be the only person left in the world who hand washes everything)

    - Will take off the Madela set and stick to bags and bottles.

    - Unsure about the swing. I looove this one so I may deal with it eating batteries.

    - The highchair is definitely a splurge. I put it on bc we bought all the other big things ourselves and my mom might get it for us. If she doesn't, we will get a cheaper one that straps to our kitchen chair or an Ikea one.
