Food Allergy

Intro - and Nutramigen AA question

I never realized this board existed! Glad to have found you ladies. I'm new to the food allergy world - my dh, ds#1 and I don't have any issues. DS#2 is a different story.

DS#2 has a severe milk allergy - the GI specialist we saw yesterday told us to switch from Nutramigen to Nutramigen AA. So far the only change has been his stools (more "normal" now), however it's only been 24 hours, so I'm not expecting overnight miracles! If your baby is on the AA formula, how long until you noticed an overall difference in your baby?

Also, my doc is going to write a letter of medical necessity in hopes to have Cigna cover the cost, but I'm not expecting that to work (Cigna sucks!!). Have anyone of you had luck with your insurance covering the cost? Did you have to do anything special to get it covered?

Re: Intro - and Nutramigen AA question

  • We switched from Nutramigen to Neocate to EleCare, and it took a few days to notice a difference. GL!

And my advice for insurance companies: if they deny it as an RX, submit it as a DX, or a durable medical supply. We found a company (Edgepark Medical, in case you're interested) who submitted the claim as a medical supply and it was approved (after 2 months of fighting with United to get it covered as a medication!) They mail it to our house once a month.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
