Cloth Diapering

Rash/yeast (i should know this)

So N has a rash. An angry hurts me to look at it rash. DS1 never had a diaper rash (I'm not exaggerating) and while N has gotten a few little ones I don't really know what to do with this and I am wondering if this could be yeast. He is teething hardcore (don't know if this could contribute). I should know the answer to this and I have googled pictures and such but I want your opinions.

Its red and bumpy and was peeling this morning. It almost looks like it has tiny blisters in spots and there are a few patches of red spots removed from the majority of the rash. I have him in sposies and was putting in A&D ointment since yesterday but it doesnt seem to be getting better. Gah. I'm assuming it's yeast (tell me it's not). So I put lotrimin on it tonight and I am going to wash all diapers with bleach.

Not really sure what I'm asking - does it sound like yeast? will the bleach kill the yuckies in the diapers while I treat the rash on N? any other suggestions?

Re: Rash/yeast (i should know this)

  • I deduced yeast after regular cream didn't work after 4 days. If it is yeast, you need to treat it for 3-4 days after the rash itself is gone (I did a week to be safe). My Dr told me that if it doesn't respond to regular cream within a few days, it is likely yeast. As for treating the diapers, I used the following process:

It worked and we haven't had any additional flareups. I put him in disposables for the week I was treating the yeast on him so we didn't start an neverending cycle.

My son is too little to be teething, but I feel like I read someplace that teething can cause bad diaper rash.
