I'm looking for some ideas. I would like to have my son give his preschool teachers a thank you gift. I thought perhaps he can make something for them.. i just don't know what. any ideas?
As a former preschool teacher I say no to a craft. I know it sounds harsh, but it is highly unlikely that she'll keep it. If you want to give something besides a note I suggest edibles or gift cards. No candles, mugs, lotions or keepsakes.
I'd vote for maybe a nice thank you card from you, describing the reasons you're grateful for their work this year, and then have your son "sign" or draw on the card, too. Add a small gift card (Cold Stone, Starbucks) if you want. Like the PP said, handmade stuff is so cute, but there just isn't space to save all the knick-knacks, candles, handprints, etc. that people give us.
We made cards for DD1's two teachers, but I was feeling uninspired and just copied what we made for the grandmothers for Mother's Day:
I cut out the flowers and the center circle from a sponge and had DD1 choose her paint colors and then sponge paint the flowers on a big piece of white paper. On the Mother's Day cards, I had both DD1 and DD2 stamp their fingerprints for leaves but I skipped that on the teachers' cards. I cut the big piece of white paper into smaller rectangles and glued them onto folded pieces of colored construction paper. On the inside I wrote the note from DD1; I thanked them for a great year and listed all the things she liked to do with them, then I had her sign her name.
And here's the cards we made for Father's Day last year; I used rubber cement and letter stencils to write the names, and after two coats had dried, I had DD1 paint over it with watercolors and then rubbed off the rubber cement after the paint had dried. You could do the same and write "Thank You" instead.
