Baby Names

Running out of time, help me name our third!

I have been lurking this board for months now, and we still haven't decided on a name for this little girl.  I'm putting everything out here, sorry it got a little long after I typed it!

Older sibs are Margaret Jane and Benjamin Andrew, but go by Maggie and Ben.  DH and I also go by our nicknames, so we would like to use a name where LO has the option of going by their full name or a proper nickname.

Our last name is two syllables and starts with an M and ends with an R.

Our top three first names at this point are:

Amelia (Mia), Elizabeth (Lizzie or Ellie. . .can be changed later) or Gwendolyn (Gwen)

For middle names we have played around with Sara (my middle name, DH decided a couple weeks ago he would like to use - and I don't think it goes with our names!), Faith or Grace (m/c and miracle baby related), or anything else that seems to flow.

Amelia Elizabeth, Amelia Faith, Amelia Grace, Amelia Sarah (no?)

Elizabeth Faith, Elizabeth Grace, Elizabeth Sara (no?)

Gwendolyn Sarah, Gwendolyn Faith. . .

Any thoughts/opinions?  I'm kind of thinking at this point we narrow it down to a couple of combinations and then decide at the hospital when we meet her!

  • While I like all your name choices, I think that Elizabeth as a strong, classic name goes great with your other LO's names. Elizabeth Grace sounds lovely.

  • Hi Jen - Glad I'm not the only one with an un-named baby. :) I love all of your choices, but my vote is for Elizabeth Grace since it is so classic like Maggie and Ben's names.

  • I smiled when I saw your 2 kids' names and then saw your choices. I have a friend with 4 kids, and their names are Benjamin (Ben), Margaret (Maggie), Elizabeth (Libby) and Katharine (Kate).

Of your options, I like Amelia Faith, Elizabeth Grace and Elizabeth Sara.

  • I agree with Amelia Grace but I also really like Gwendolyn Sarah.

  • Thank you for all the input so far!

A couple of things that are funny.  We never realized until we started signing birthday cards and things that our whole family currently kinda rhymes.  So I have to sign things Andy, Jen, Maggie and Ben, Or Jen, Andy, Ben and Maggie, lol.  Gwen to me while cute would add another rhyme which DH thinks is no big deal, but I thought it got too cutesy!

Maggie and Mia is cutesy too, but it doesn't bother me as much for some reason.

Other middle name options that would honor grandmas - Judith, Susan or Laureen.  I don't like my MIL's middle name, lol.

So Elizabeth Laureen, Elizabeth Susan, Amelia Judith, Amelia Laureen or Amelia Susan could all be choices too I guess!

Oh and for Elizabeth, it really is our top choice I think, but I worry about it being less unique than Amelia?  Both are classic, which we love.  Plus, I have been thinking of this baby as Ellie since we found out she was a girl (I had been pushing for Eleanor, another family name, but DH hates it)

  • I love Amelia Grace.
  • If your worried about the name being more unique, go with Gwendolyn.  Amelia has become very popular.  I know so many babies that are named or nn Mia.  Ellie could also be a nn for Elizabeth.

I like Elizabeth Laureen and I like that it's after a grandmother.

  • I would definitely go with Elizabeth Sarah. I think Libby/Lizzie/Liza/Beth/Betsy is a great addition to your already wonderfully named children.

With your name and your DS's name, I think Gwen would be WAY overkill. It sounds a little cartoonish.

Amelia is fine, but I do agree that Maggie and Mia is a little cutesy.

Someone mentioned Katherine earlier, and I think Kate would be good, too. There are lots of great names with good nn's (Lucille/Lucy, Lillian/Lily, Rebecca/Becky, Josephine/Josie, Sophia/Sophie, Lydia/Liddy, Teresa/Tessa).

    Good luck!

  • I really like Gwendolyn Faith - I've also known Wendy to be a NN for Gwendolyn.

And I like Elizabeth Grace or Sara - and IMO Betsy is the best NN for Elizabeth Smile

  • Overall, great choices! I like Amelia Grace, Elizabeth Grace, or Gwendolyn Faith.

Actually, now that I'm writing this and saying these in my head, I think Gwendolyn Faith is gorgeous!

  • I love the name Amelia, and think Amelia Elizabeth or Amelia Grace sounds the best.
  • Elizabeth Grace! You could call her by nick name from Elizabeth or Gracie!

  • I obviously love Amelia! Although I prefer Millie as a nn. But Mia is cute, too.

Elizabeth is lovely, too, and I love that it has so many cute nicknames.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. :)

This! My sister and I both have M names, and my dad STILL gets them confused! It's super annoying!!

I think Maggie, Ben, and Lizzie are fabulous. Big Smile I would definately go with Elizabeth. It seems like your style!

    GL!
