Viva paper towels as liners?

Has anyone used viva papertowels as liners?  My 5 month old just started solids a few weeks ago and we've started to experiement with liners to help with the thicker poop.  They seem to be working but if she just pees it sticks to her skin...would this cause a diaper rash?  We've been using them for 3 days now and haven't noticed a rash but it just seems strange.  Do all liners do this?  I like the idea of the cheap flushable liners.

Re: Viva paper towels as liners?

  • It would probably be cheaper to get a roll of liners. Those Viva paper towels are expensive, plus I wouldn't flush them.  They will clog up your plumbing.

  • I am pretty sure that they will clog your system if you flush them. You can buy fairly inexpensive flushable liners, but I have heard that these can still back up.  If you want something re-usable you can cut up pieces of fleece and lay it in the diaper, this would be easier to clean than just the diaper itself.

  • They don't seem to be super absorbant so i'm not overly concerned w/ the clogging.  But if I were to use fleece liners how would i get the poop off when it's this thick goo?  I've heard of people using spatculas but how would i get it off the spatcula?  Ick! lol

That's partly why they'll clog, because they won't absorb the water and break up like TP does when you flush it.  Plus a paper towel is much larger and bulkier than a disposable liner.

This website is where I got my liners and they work great when I load up on the creams or something.  Still soft against her bum and small/thin enough that I doubt I'll have plumbing problems.  Plus they have free (super fast!) shipping and great customer service.

  • Thanks for the website!  Which liners do you use?  There are 4-5 options, i'm lost! :)

  • I was just as nervous ordering mine for the first time.  I have since realized that you probably can't get a "wrong" brand lol....  I have the Grovia BioLiners, but I just noticed she has them listed as out of stock!  I would think either of the other brands would work just as well, but if you like the sound of a particular brand that isn't in stock, you can do a google search and see if you can find them elsewhere.

    Hope that helps!
