ARGH!! My pump is dead!!!

My Medela PIS is dead. Motor gone. Customer Service no help, just said I would have to buy a new one. FML.

Has anyone else had this problem? I was so thrilled that it wasn't an expense I had to repeat with baby #2...until now.

Re: ARGH!! My pump is dead!!!

  • Are you sure it's dead? I thought mine was dead, but it was just the cord.

Do you have the cord that is battery powered you can try?

  • I've heard this happen to ladies on other boards and their pumps were usually replaced... even one who had bought her pump on Ebay. Medela also sent out a warning a few months ago about tying the cord around the AC adapter, saying that it damages it. Maybe you could try to call again and another rep will send you a replacement adapter or a whole new pump? I would keep trying. GL!

  • I'm really surprised Medela said you have to buy a new pump. I've seen a lot of posts about people getting new/free pumps when theirs died. Did they give you any troubleshooting advice? I'd try calling again and hopefully you'll get a new rep who is more helpful.

  • If it's not within the warranty (usually a year) you probably are out of luck. though i do think it ridic that one's pump wouldn't last for more than one child, medela - consider extending your warranty.

my sister's PISA that I was using died and it was well out of warranty so we didn't even try. i bought a new one that was having issues from day one, and they sent me a replacement but i'm not sure they do that for anyone who has a dead pump.

  • darn, that really sux!  I would call back as PP suggested and hopefully get a more helpful rep

  • Are you sure it's the motor? My cord/adapter died (I dropped it about six inches onto the floor - I'm a bit irritated it's so freaking sensitive) and they overnighted me a new one and didn't even ask for any warranty information.

  • Mine broke within the warranty period and they overnighted me a new one.  Their customer service is usually excellent.
  • Mine survived EP-ing three kids, but I went through three cords.  The cords are about $15 or $20.  Did you try it with the batteries?
