Cloth Diapering

skinny baby stupid uestion

So much to my surprise I have a long skinny baby.  DH and I are NOT long and skinny people.  So I've waited a while to start on my gorgeous cloth diapers.  They're obviously bulky so I went up a size in onesies to fit around the dipe but its swallowing him up top.  It's pretty cool here even during the day so I still need to keep him in layers.  Does anyone else have this issue?  do you have a solution?

  • I've been there.  They make onesie extenders, but I started with brands that made smaller, longer onesies or kimono shirts.  Gerbers fit in the early days the best.  Carter's (sold at JCPenneys) were longer than wide.

The Kimono shirts are good in long sleeve or short sleeve.  Now that I think, we used a lot of those.

At a certain point, I just quit bothering with onesies.

All of this except the Gerber ones, which are crazy short IMO.  I like Circo from Target. I did buy onesie extenders and used them a bit during the winter when I wanted a covered belly.  Make sure you get a variety pack, though, because different brands use different size snaps.  I got mine at Buy Buy Baby.

But we also stocked up on baby tshirts and that's what mine wear most of the time, rather than onesies.

  • I have the exact same challenge! My little guy is long and skinny, so with the big fluffy cloth diaper bum, onsies that fit him lengthwise swim on his chest. I find that Carter's onsies tend to be longer, and now that the weather is warmer I have him in just a diaper and a t-shirt pretty often.

  • I have a long baby that is not super skinny but not chunky either.  I have taken to turning her onsies into shirts by cutting them off right above the leg holes and then hemming them.  If you are artsy you could do that.
  • we have the same problem! like PP suggested, we use carter onsies. They seem to be longer without the added width.  Gerber onsies are useless!
